findings in a much needed break

-Something not to far from what we’ve ended up with for the graffiti noise or whatever we’re calling it.

Feels strange though, to find inspiration when the projects are so close to deadline.

And one more..

(STILL A SKETCH)

no relation to the graffiti noise, shown in an earlier post, but for the same client. (the POPmuseum) -have not yet tested out wether we should have high pitch in the inner or outer circles.. So far leaning towards having to stand in it to be able to play it , rather than just try to reach into it.

-at least trying to figure out what goes where.

A very ruff sketch, inspired by the 3d bonanza from earlier.

Video Prototyping!

“Communication of a product to outsiders: Creating stories and determine the scale of stories, as a presentation tool and as a process. Video prototyping is commonly used by “everyone” conceptual products as a way of evidencing (proving how it might work.) to others. -Can also be working prototypes explained through video, but all in all convincing the viewer how it works and how to use it..” (Einar talking)

One of my favourites is the infamous sketch-a-move.. I’m guessing the one with the magnet, (underneath the table) has the most fun, but I seriously do not envy her having to practice all the moves. The only problem regarding make-pretend is people miss-interpreting it.. and wanting to buy it. (Come to think of it, Knuts Sun-Cat batteries is perhaps my ultimate favorite, though still not as a video. It would quite possibly be a very long and dull movie, but then again, he’s a genius with anything time-lapse.)

For our own sake, we’ve started using it as an iterative tool, at least regarding the Sketching Music, in order to explore how which graphics and moves might go with what sounds. -Of course, way more fun than actually making it.  (Photoshop sketches below, in earlier post.)

-Wondering when I’ll have to get testimonials on everything I do in order to verify for others if its real or not.

making a short presentation for tomorrow, this is one of out two concepts where we use huge crayons to draw light on a wall that gets “scanned” and echoes out over time as the white light moves across the wall. great fun! I promise.

notes from Birgitta Cappelans lecture on co-creation

Designing for ambiguity : Linking physical products to intangible experiences

  • Object orient thinking
  • Objects and functions
  • Relation & sequences
  • Right & wrong
  • Openness in “the doing”
  • Reduce dependencies in sequences

From any point, you can go anywhere.”

Intuition

  • Signs of use
  • Signs of wear
  • The beauty of traces in physical objects
  • Inscription of our selves caused by reuse of the object

FROM:What is “good” design? / How does one create “good” design?

TO:What is “meaningful” design? How does one design meaningful smart objects?

FROM:USE Consumption + Producing = “procumer”

TO: Re-creation

  • Creation of meaning through mediated communication
  • Recreation of mediated articulation in the discourse field, the network, the context.

Creative Adaptation and unintended use as a “Negotiation Space” between the object and the people who use it.

-Birgitta has designed a lot of tangible objects for open or explorative use (a lot of them exhibited in Norwegian and Swedish museums.) but has taken UbiComp further towards theraputical objects for disabled children.

oh mother..

Having presented a load of concepts to the POP Museum today, we’ve had to be really critical in the way we’re going to make the projects.

major time constraints.

-not to mention that it’ll be a challenge just making it function propperly, at least for the ones both the POP and we like.

I’d like to work on the different aspects of feeling connected to the museum, as for creating tangible objects that you can bring with you when you leave, weather it be a ticket for re-use or a container for all the sounds you’ve made there, making you more of  a member of the museum than just a sporadic customer. (the vinyl toy Wah, which sketches were posted earlier.)

I must agree on the invisible instrument having huge potential, both in regards to architecture and conceptual dance. (inspired by the laser harp, and one of the first things that popped into our head.) I don’t know if it matter for the sake of the school course, but playing on the instrument would be anything but tangible. -The main reason that I like it however is that we’d get a lot of great and possibly strange dance poses.. And it was the main thing the POP liked from us.

The second most praised was the video sketch where we draw music, and which I have absolutely no clue on how to make.

-and I really wanted to make musical furniture or character design. Have no idea how to wriggle my self out of this one…

Dunno much about him yet. ..only that he’s named after the superbly delicious sound of the wah-wah pedal, and might end up being targeted towards kids.

goshdarnit!?

February 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

totally besides the point, but I’m such a sucker for funny languages.. Of course it was all in order when I reloaded, but this really made me go from whatthe ☹! to little miss sunshine in a fraction of a second. (Dear wordpress, this made me love you more.) And seriously, how can anyone be mad when Goshdarnit comes popping up? Looking forward to reading about servers with the Hibigeebies in the future.
